そもそもいい音楽は心に響くものだが、「想像してごらんよ」で始まるこの歌のメッセージは最も多くの人に強い共感をもたらしたと思われる。当初はジョン・レノンの作とされたが、歌詞においてヨーコの詩集がベースにあると認識され、オノ・ヨーコとの共作と記されるようになった。
